General Information:

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or produce enough of the hormone insulin. Insulin is known as a hormone that is crucialto convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. How diabeties is caused is unkown, although both genetics and environmental factors such as being overweight and not exercising appear to play significant parts.

There are over 20 million plus children and adults in the United States who may have diabetes. While an estimated 14 million or so have been diagnosed with diabetes, unfortunately, around 6 million or so people which equates to be around 33% are unaware that they may have diabetis

DiabetesMany do not know that there are in fact that there are four major types of diabeties which will be explained below:

Type 1 Diabeties - Simply put, this type of diabetes is when the body is unable to produce insulin properly. Since insulin is the hormone responsible for breaking down sugar, carbs and other foods in to energy this is the effect of Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes - This type of diabeties is the result of the body's own resistance to insulin.  This often is magnified by the body's own lack of insulin to begin with.  This is also the most common type of diabetis disease.

Gestational Diabetis - This is a common type of diabetes that affects only pregnant women.  In fact 14% of pregnant women get this type of diabetes.

Pre-Diabeties - Pre-diabetes is a type of diabeties that occurs when a person's blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. There are around 54 million or so Americans who have pre-diabetes.

Diabeties Symptoms

The first step in learning about Diabetes and how to make smart choices in dealing with this disease or to predict whether or not you may have signs of diabeties is by learning about the common diabeties symptoms that may occur.  Below are the most common diabeties symptoms in humans.

Diabeties symptoms #1 - Frequent Urination or in other words, the person afflicted must use the restroom more regular than normal.

Diabeties Symptoms #2 - Excessive Thirst - More commonly those affected with diabeties often crave water more often than normal.

Diabeties Symptoms #3 - Extreme Hunger - The afflicted may feel extremely hungry mroe often than not.

Other common symptoms of diabetes include unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, Irritability, blurry vision.
